So this is something I’m planning on doing on a daily basis for the rest of the spring. If there’s a game, I will talk about that, so you don’t actually have to watch. If there isn’t, I’ll think of some other shit to talk about. It will be fun. Once the season starts, there will be even more to talk about and we will already be cookin’.
Today we’re playing the Cardinals. Its 2:50pm and the Mets are already up 14-1 in the 4th inning. This is a good thing. Spring Training baseball scores and stats should always be taken with a grain of salt, but we lit up Adam Wainwright today. He is an established, former All-Star pitcher. Everyone is hitting. Jay Bruce has a 2-RBI single, Neil Walker has 2 RBIs, D’Arnaud has 2 as well, and Wilmer “Cry Baby” Flores hit a Grand Slam. For those of you who aren’t up on your baseball lingo, that means he hit a home run with the bases loaded. That is a good thing to do in a baseball game. Needless to say, I am excited about this Mets offense. Grandy, The Ass Man, Cespedes, Duda and D’Arnaud are all hitting above .300 so far this spring. If this kind of production carries into the regular season, Mets games are going to be a blast this summer.
Steven Matz got the start for the Mets and continued his productive spring, demonstrating his return to health. The fastball is sitting 92-94 MPH and flashing even higher, and he has a new toy in the tool belt this spring: a deadly pickup move. Last season, Matz had more runners steal bases off him than anybody else in baseball, and clearly went into the offseason with a plan to fix that. He has been picking dudes off all spring, so look for that to carry over into the regular season, because absolutely everything positive that happens in spring training always carries over to the regular season. You can quote me on that. Enjoy March Madness and we will reconvene this conversation tomorrow.
